Like many great ideas, Porter Poles was born from a real-life problem.
This past winter, I introduced my 7-year-old son to skiing. We spent as much time as we could on the slopes, and it quickly became one of our favourite things to do together. He learned fast and gained confidence with every trip to the hill.
One thing, however, kept happening any time he went from from skis to walking. He couldn’t carry his poles and skis at the same time.
Every time we finished a run and started walking to the chalet or back to the car, he was constantly dropping his ski poles. He would stop to pick one up, take a few more steps, then drop the other. Before long, I found myself carrying both of our poles just to make the walk easier.
It made me wonder why there wasn't a simple product that could clip ski poles together. Something lightweight that stayed attached to the poles all the time, so there was nothing extra to carry, lose, or remember.
That moment sparked the idea for Porter Poles.
